Miami-Dade County Government Deploys #MovingToANewNormal Campaign

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez has deployed a campaign to encourage guidelines to combat the spread of Covid-19 called “Moving to a New Normal.”

“I’m taking additional measures to control the spread of COVID-19, imposing a nightly curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice for all of Miami-Dade County,” Mayor Gimenez posted on Miami-Dade County Government’s Facebook page on July 2, accompanied by their new “Moving to a New Normal” logo.

While new information by the CDC indicates that a much larger part of the United States’ population may have contracted the virus—therefore building immunity against it—is good news, it appears that Miami-Dade County Mayor has chosen to accept, in his own terms, that we will not be going back to our “old normal” anytime soon, or maybe ever.

The full news release by Mayor Gimenez says that the police “will be out checking on thousands of businesses and closing those that violate the rules” and that business owners “will face criminal fines of up to $500 and 180 days in jail.”

The Word of God says in Proverbs 18:21 that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

By declaring that we are “moving to a new normal” and spreading that messaging to its residents, Miami-Dade County may be applying this biblical principle against itself and further delaying their recovery from this pandemic.

As believers, we ought to stand in the gap for the residents of Miami-Dade County and pray that their leaders see the truth, turning away from this terrible campaign and promoting a successful recovery back into the healthy normal instead.
